I'm thrilled to have you visit my site!
This page is about who I am and what I do.
"I have always been fascinated by machines, how they work and what makes them move."
I'd like to acknowledge and pay respect to the land and the traditional families of the Yugambeh region of South East Queensland (the traditional owners of the land where I grew-up). I spent my childhood on a property at Yatala. While this area is now a major industrial hub, you may also know of the area for its sugarcane, pies and the historic rum distillery.
How did I get into the refrigeration industry?
When I was 15, my father arranged for me to go on two weeks of work-experience during my school holidays. I'm thankful for my dad, because this was a great opportunity to learn about the trade. I mostly remember that we travelled around Brisbane to fix ice cream freezers and I could eat as many semi-melted ice creams that I was able to.
After graduating high school, I secured an apprenticeship with Mike Melenewycz.
Initially we were contractors for Carrier and Toshiba, where we diagnosed and repaired faults on behalf of the manufacturers.
During the final years of my apprenticeship, we mostly completed maintenance and repairs on commercial air conditioning plant for Woolworths supermarkets, BP service stations and Warner Brothers sound studios.
I successfully completed my apprenticeship in November 2008.
Sadly, Mike's business closed after the GFC; that's when I joined a new company as a HVAC Maintenance technician at QUT Gardens Point.
Over the years, I've worked across a range of industry-sectors and plant:
I do value and appreciate the diversity of our industry. I still consider myself an apprentice, because I must keep learning (and sometimes re-learning) in order to stay relevant.
I try to make a difference in the world by implementing energy-efficiency measures, and by sharing my knowledge and experience with others.
